South Beach
The south beach is the latest dietary craze that has been making the health buffs go wild again. It is a new kind of Low carb diet that has been created by Dr. Arthur Agatson, the director in Miami Beach, Florida of the Cardiac Prevention Center in Mount Sinai. I actually thought that they called it the south beach diet because some surfer kind with washboard abs decided to share his secret. The doctor says he created this diet when he became disillusioned with the high fat theories of Dr. Atkins.
Like the Atkins diet the south beach diet also involves phases for the person to follow.
The first phase of the diet will be the strictest phase of the diet and will lasts 14 days. The person will still eat the regular servings of turkey, chicken, shellfish and fish. He is also allowed to eat nuts, cheese, and eggs. The typical breakfast will be a lean slice of bacon and 2 eggs. He is also going to have a morning snack that consists of celery that is stuffed with Laughing Cow Cheese. His lunches will salad green with grilled chicken. The afternoon snack will be 10 cherry tomatoes with half a cup of low fat cottage cheese. Dinner will be fibrous vegetables with a lean meat.
The diet foods that he can enjoy during phase 1 are the following: tenderloin, top round or sirloin, turkey breasts or skinless chicken, all types of shellfish and fish, Canadian bacon, turkey bacon, boiled ham, whole eggs, peanuts, fat-free cheeses and pistachios, legumes, green vegetables, canola and olive oils.
