The South Beach Diet

Don't have time to spare in the kitchen? Who does?! Because of our hectic schedule, we hardly have the time to have a sit-down meal or cook a delicious dish. Due to a busy schedule, drive-through windows, pizza or sweets have become part of our lives.

But the choice of the proper food is still our prerogative even if we don’t seem to have been slowing down. Enter South Beach Diet.

The South Beach Diet was created by Dr. Arthur Agatson, a cardiologist., in the mid-1990s as a result of the clamor for a low-fat, high-carbohydrate diet as a recommendation of the American Heart Association.

Three different phases cover The South Beach Diet. Phase 1 kicks off the weight loss program. Phase 2 concentrates on the maintenance of weight loss. Finally, Phase 3 is meant to last the rest of your life

Phase 1 is done for two weeks learning the foods to enjoy and avoid. Eating three balanced meals and a snack is the plan in Phase 1. Lean meat, chicken, turkey, fish and shellfish, eggs, cheese with lessened fat, nuts, beans and plenty of vegetables are to be eaten. Bread, rice, potatoes, pasta or baked goods and even fruits are not to be eaten. After a couple of weeks, they are to part of the diet once again. Sugar, candies, cakes, cookies, ice creams are to be avoided as well. Beer or alcohol is not allowed.

Fruit, breads and pasta are to be reintroduced in Phase 2. Dieters are worried in this phase because the reintroduction might overturn the weight they have loss. The South Beach Diet is a lifetime plan so learning to eat the right carbohydrates again is essential. The reintroduction should be done slowly. The procedure is that the patient will select a single carbohydrate and insert it to one daily meal for a week. Monitor your body’s response. If everything works well, add a second option and once again, monitor your reaction. Proceed until two to three servings of the correct carbohydrates are eaten a day. When you lose your control, return to Phase 1 for a few days until everything normalizes.

Phase 2 has no time-limit. When you reach your goal, Phase 3 is consummated. Making smart choices of food is the idea in Phase 3. Your general health can be improved by trying out new recipes and ingredients and living a new lifestyle.

Try the South Beach Diet just to lose weight. When you do try it, you assure yourself of a good accomplishment to yourself.
