Eat To Lose Weight
Eat to lose weight. This sounds like a goofy advice. How can you ever shed that much weight if you will dump more food into your mouth? For one thing, the opposite course of action is suicidal, that is not eating to lose weight. This only means that you must eat, not just any food, but the right kind of food.
In loosing weight, we must remember that you are supposed to lose fat, not muscle and not water. When you don’t eat at all, you may find a significant drop in your weight when you check the weighing scale. But what you are actually losing is muscle mass, a very important and much needed part of your physique. Try to lose weight slowly, not drastically. If you lose weight at a slower rate, you are indeed removing the body fat. If you lose weight at a faster rate, you are just letting your muscle mass degenerate.
When you don’t eat enough food, you don’t have enough energy to last the day. The day is not yet through and you already feel tired. And since your body is lethargic due to very little energy, your metabolism slows down. This means that the burning of calories inside your body also slows down. Where will this lead you? A hungry body with too much stored fat.
Related to reason stated above, eating is needed to maintain your body’s metabolism. This is especially applicable to those who have already achieved their ideal weight. Keeping lean muscles takes more energy than storing fat (or even losing body fat). You need to burn more calories to maintain those lean muscles. It means that you need to eat.
People who starve themselves to lose weight don’t stay long in their “no eating diet”. When you starve, you are depriving yourself of needed sustenance. This may compound any depressed feelings that you may have. And soon after starving yourself, you will indulge in another eating extravaganza.
And last, starving defeats your main purpose why you are trying to lose weight. You wanted to reduce your weight because you wanted to lessen health risks such as hypertension. Your ultimate aim is to transform yourself to a more healthy you.
But when you starve yourself, you are depriving your body with much needed vitamins and minerals. You may be able to reach your ideal weight by starving but your face is sickly pale, your hair is lifeless, and your cheerful disposition has disappeared. In some parts of your body, your skin will look like shriveled empty bags.
Therefore, lose your weight gradually by eating the right kind and the right amount of food.
