Water in Your Diet

Water is an important component of our daily lives. In fact, when one is stranded in a desert, one can survive without food but not without water. Plus foods can get us choked up and die, while drinking water can definitely not make you choke.

Let’s take a look at how important water really is in our daily lives. First thing is, water is important in maintaining great health. Water helps us get better skin, sleep and vision. The only time we won’t have great sleep when we drink too much is when we pee on our bed. On a serious note, all our cell processes and organs depend heavily on water. Water also helps us prevent constipation. It also helps us regulate our body temperatures when it distributes the heat and cools us off by perspiration. Clinical evidence even suggests that by drinking water we can be able to lower the risk of having kidney stones.

The old adage is that we must drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to become healthy. Recent research says that we can still get our fluids form certain foods, such as fruits and vegetables.

One must also take into account that drinking too much water is also bad. Hyponatremia results from too much water consumption. It is a medical term for low sodium in the blood. It’s symptoms include headache, diarrhea, weakness, confusion and sometimes personal changes. In the worst cases one can experience seizures, be in a coma or even die. However this disease is not common because normal kidneys can handle up to 12 liters of water.

To be able to stay hydrated this summer here are some tips that one can personally follow:

1. The water you need depends upon your activity, climate and weight.

2. Try to add fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet. An example is lettuce because it is 97% water.

3. Eat fresh salads every day because when they are cooked their water content is reduced.

4. When we become older wee become less sensitive to body loss and the sense of thirst diminishes. Therefore when we grow older more water is still needed.

5. Spread your fluid intake throughout the day.

6. Water is better than any other fluids to drink because it has no calories.

7. Water will not help you lose weight but can be a tool because drinking water between meals curbs your appetite.

If you want to stay health a proper serving of water will do. You don’t need to imagine that the water you drink ahs got something special because it really is special even though it is very ordinary.
