The Diet Phenomenon
Everybody, no matter what their body size, skin color or income level is, seems to be enamored with the idea of diet these days.
Maybe it could be because a lot of celebrities have been sponsoring several diet types or maybe it’s because society today become more pronounced with their preferences for anorexic looking bodies that people feel pressured to go on a diet and have toothpick thin figures…but whatever the case, it’s entirely undeniable that going on a diet is almost considered as a fashionable habit by most people!
In defining diet, the basic meaning of it is following what certain figures of authority prescribe you to eat and what not to eat. But if you ask people who are already on a diet, for them diet just means voluntarily putting yourself under weeks and months of torture and frustration.
Do You Need To Diet?
If you’re underweight, I don’t think you need to diet. Accept
what the weighing scale tells you and start eating! Do you know how lucky
you are not to need to go on a diet? Don’t waste that blessing. Eat
as much as you can and indulge yourself in all the sinful gastronomical pleasures
that our world offers us.
If you’re overweight, however, please overcome your self-denial and accept that you truly need to go on a diet. I know. Going on a diet means hours of frustrations, seeing so many kinds of food that’s as forbidden to you as that red scrumptious apple Eve gave Adam (you know what happened afterwards so don’t you dare cross the line!) and more often than not, you’ll also be required to spend hours in the gym, working out in those merciless looking treadmills.
BUT going on a diet is always good for overweight people because being overweight may present a lot of health complications when you get old so do please accept the truth and move on.
But just in case you’re not so sure if you indeed need to go on a diet, here’s what you can do. Calculate your body mass index by dividing your weight in Kg by your height in meter squared. If your body mass index is in between 18.5 – 24.9 then you can declare yourself safe from the rigors of diet.
Any score between 25 -29 however indicates that you need to start paying
attention to what you eat as you’ve actually tipped the scales a bit.
But when your body mass index is beyond the 30 point line, I’m sorry
to say that you’re considered obese and must really go on a diet.
