Diet Facts

Today, going on a diet seems almost like an “in” thing to do because almost everyone, even those who don’t seem to need it (read Lindsay Lohan), seems to be doing it. If people like them are so concerned about their weight, shouldn’t we be also?

Now, going on a diet is not something to be entered into. Ask anyone who’s already on a diet if you don’t believe me. Sure, the benefits are great and going on a diet – whether it’s to lose or just maintain your present weight – is always a good thing as long as it’s done properly but it also means days and nights of hard work. If you’re contemplating about going on a diet, here are several facts that you must be aware of regarding this particular phenomenon.

Diet talks about what you’re supposed to eat and what you’re not supposed to eat. If all you want to do is remain healthy and strong and you’ve no major problems with your weight, the best kind of diet to take is one that’s high in fiber and low in cholesterol. High fiber diet means sticking to food like fruits and vegetables.

A low cholesterol diet on the other hand means avoiding entirely food that’s especially high in unsaturated fat. If and when you go on a diet that’s high in fiber and low in cholesterol, you’re sure to enjoy a longer and more fruitful life.

On the other hand, if you’re simply considering the idea of going on a diet but you’re not sure if you truly need to, here’s a tip. Compute your body mass index by dividing your weight in kilograms by your height in square meter. If you still don’t know how to get your body mass index using that formula, simply search the Internet for an online calculator.

Anyway, when you have your results, here’s the meaning behind those numbers: you don’t need to go on a diet if your score is between 18.5 and 24.9; you need to go on a diet – for the time being at least – because you’re already slightly overweight with a body mass index between 25.0 and 29.0; lastly, you truly need to go on a diet – no excuses here! – if your body mass index is 30.0 or higher!

If you’re overweight and you’ve accepted the need to diet, keep in mind that sticking to a diet routine may not necessarily be the only thing you need to do in order to lose a lot of pounds. You may also be required to stick to an exercise routine. But if you’re determined and diligent, you’re sure to be sexy in no time!
