Atkins Diet Overview

It is inevitable that we all gain weight some time in our life. Especially if we are all too busy sitting in front of our office day in and night out. After which we become so stressed out that we have no longer the energy to work out at the gym. Some of us just tend to become lazy and be couch potatoes and slowly develop bigger stomachs.

If gaining weight is a nightmare for you and you no longer have the time to exercise. Dieting may be the answer for you. One famous diet that ahs been quite famous for a very long time now is the Atkins diet. It has been around since the 1970’s and claims that you can eat all the protein and fat you want but still lose weight. You would only need to cut back on your carbohydrates.

The first steps of the Atkins diet put the person into an induction phase where he will be put into ketosis. Te person will be required to cut out all kind of carbohydrates such as rice, potatoes, breads, etc. Even if you have the urge to eat those carbs, just remember that you can still eat those fats and lose weight. It’s just a matter of balancing the good stuff. Just compare what would be good to eat a bag of chips or a piece of steak, which will help your mind, be at ease with the Atkins diet.

After the first few weeks, you are now able to reintroduce some few carbohydrates back to your diet. Remember the emphasis on the word “few”. The diet will say that you would need to keep on adding carbohydrate until you have stopped losing weight. This will help you figure out your limit in carbs and be able to lose weight effectively.

Some people claim that when a person will need to feed a family, the Atkins’ diet is very unfriendly, especially for the children. They feel that they will have a hard time to adjust their lives without their carbs such as mashed potatoes. Atkins’ diet is better for people who still live alone or if you are in a family life, prepare your own separate diet.

In conclusion the Atkins’ diet claims that you can be able to lose weight by still being able to eat large amounts of protein. You would only need to eat very little sugar and white flour.

The drawbacks of Atkins diet is that the weight loss may be fast but is hard to sustain. The kidneys may be strained because of diet that promotes ketosis. The fat that you intake may become higher because of the high protein you now intake. Finally, severely restricting carbs such as potatoes and vegetables is not really a very friendly diet plan.

If you really want to lose weight via diet, try it out first. If you can’t seem to take the Atkins diet, I’m pretty sure there are other ways for you to diet.
