Atkins diet is the most common diet practice. It is also the basis of other popular diets, like the south beach diet. The basic concept of the Atkins diet is that the dieting person should try to avoid carbohydrates and focus more on proteins.

It is because of this belief that the Atkins diet experiences failures too. Some people may be on the Atkins diet for quite some time now but the diet still hasn’t lost them any pounds. Here are some of the reasons why low carb diets do not work on others.

1: Count the calories as well as the carbohydrates: Losing weight is not only about cutting back on the carbohydrates. If you just cut back on the carbs but still eat foods that totals lots of calories you may not lose weight. Low carb diets work because they just reduce your appetite and naturally you will cut back eating and calories. However some people will not eat less just because they have reduced their carb intake. To make it more effective count the number of calories you eat as well.

2: Low carb diets will usually make the person eat only 20 grams of calories on the earlier stages of the diet. The next phase will be the dieter to eat more carbs gradually. Instead of doing so, try to reverse it and reduce the carbs you eat gradually. Because since carbs give energy if you suddenly reduce the number of carbs you et you might feel quite different right away. By eating less carbs gradually rather than suddenly you will be giving your body time to adjust.

3: It is not the carbohydrates that affect weight. It is the calories we eat that affect our weight. The usual way of losing weight is when one person burns more calories than he eats. So it’s ok to eat carbs but you need to maintain a calorie diet too.

4: The Atkins diet advises the dieter to quit drinking coffee. Don’t quit drinking coffee, because coffee helps burn fats and adapt to fat burning faster. Coffee also has a thermogenic effect, meaning that if you drink it, you’ll burn more calories. Coffee also helps suppress appetite. Some people decide to quit the Atkins diet because it requires to quit drinking coffee. Dr. Atkins should know that coffee is addicting and is not that easy to quit.

5: Drink milk and eat yogurts, because they help reduce weight. The bacteria in yogurts have a chemical reaction with our body that creates lactic acid.

6: Low carb diets are really high in fat diets because eating more proteins will only make you hungrier. When you eat less fat your body’s metabolism will adapt a slower approach where it will burn your body fat slower too. Lastly the fat soluble vitamins the fat provides helps burn the proteins you eat. Without it, you will become constipated and have an upset stomach.

7: The quick weight loss you experienced is mostly water only. After the first phases, losing weight will be harder.
